Parent/Provider Handbook and Policy Statement

If after reading and understanding the following policies you wish to enroll your child the Contract/Fee Arrangements Form as well as a new client questionaire can be downloaded and completed prior to enrollment. These forms may be emailed back to me if desired.

Effective 2008

Welcome to Cati’s House Childcare.

Please read this ~Handbook~ thoroughly, as it covers very important policies and procedures that not only govern our childcare contract agreement, but also pertain to the care of your child. There may seem to be a lot of information, if you have any questions regarding my policies, please do not hesitate to ask. We will go over this book during your interview, but this copy is for you to reference back to. There will be a yearly revision to this ~Handbook~ and the accompanying contract. All families will sign a new contract each year. I reserve the right to make changes to the policies and procedures, as I deem necessary. You will be notified, in writing, of any changes that may occur.

Dear Parents,

As a working parent, you face the difficult challenge of balancing the demands of work with the needs of family. Finding high quality childcare that is flexible to your work schedule is one of the most difficult tasks you will face. I want to thank you for trusting me with your child; this is a special gift to me.

Mission & Philosophy:
Mission:
Cati’s House Childcare is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for all children. We are committed to enriching children's lives socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in an atmosphere that enhances creativity and self-confidence.

Philosophy:
In defining our philosophy, we work from the following foundational truths:

  1. We believe that a child's self-esteem is a critical ingredient in the entire education process. We nurture this through the quality of relationships and adult/child interactions in the classrooms. Furthermore, we structure our environment and program to provide children with successful accomplishments, while still being challenged.
  2. All children are unique individuals, and as such will grow and respond at their own pace. We believe the early childhood classroom should be sensitive to these individual differences, and provide all children with a rich variety of experiences.
  3. Children learn through play and the active manipulation of materials in their environment. Therefore, we structure the daily routine to provide a balance of both teacher- and child- directed activities.

Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) is the cornerstone of our philosophy. We understand how children learn and develop, and we use this knowledge to meet children where they are in the developmental continuum. We encourage them towards challenging, yet attainable goals. We know that children are active learners, and that through physically interacting with materials and people in their environment, they are literally building neural pathways in their brain.

License:
Private Type B homes: - one to six children cared for in the provider's personal residence. No more than three children may be under two years of age. The provider's own children under six years of age must be included in the total count. Anyone can operate a Type B Home without a license.

Licensed Type B homes:- the county department of Job and Family Services must certify type B homes if the childcare is paid for with public funds.

Enrollment Policy:
During the interview you received a checklist, which covers requirements for enrollment. This must be followed in order to enroll your child. All paperwork must be received before your child may start.

  • There is a registration fee of $50.00 per family
  • Read through and become familiar with the Policies. You will be required to sign a form that indicates you have read, understood, and agree to ALL the policies as outlined
  • There are many forms that must be completed and handed in before I can assume the responsibility of caring for your child. (There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Most of these forms are required by the State of Ohio). In accordance with state law you will be required upon admission to complete the required necessary forms and provide a statement certifying your child’s immunization record, a listing of any specials needs, the name of your child’s physician, and signed handbook and contract. Your child must be in the process of obtaining all immunizations at the medically appropriate times. Care will not be provided if I do not have all of the required, complete paperwork. All information will be kept confidential. (A medical form signed by a physician or certified nurse practitioner is required to be submitted within 30 days of admission. This medical must be updated every 6 months for children under two and yearly for children over two).
  • Fees are due in advance for each week. I require advance payment for two reasons.
  1. To protect myself from families who choose to terminate without notice and not pay for childcare already given
  2. To buy supplies need for the daycare for the following week (food and other daycare related expenses that are needed upfront)

Your child’s adjustment is important to all of us. It is therefore agreed that a two-week trial period will exist before arrangements for continued care become final. At the end of this period, the parents and provider will discuss how the child has adjusted to the new setting, realizing that this varies from child to child. At this time either party may terminate care. You will not be required to give me a two-week notice.

Non-Discrimination- As a provider, I shall not discriminate in relation to admissions on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, religion or sex

Hours and Days of Operation:
Hours are set on Per Family Basis: We are open 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift for your convenience.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Closing:
There may be a day that I must close due to an illness or training; this would only happen if my back up could not cover me. (I have 3 back-ups) I will notify you as soon as possible for an illness.

Staff/child Ratios:
Ratio: There is a ratio of 6:1 (6 kids-1 adult). No more than three children may be under two years of age.

My Husband and daughters are here through out the day to help.

Daily Schedules:
The Children’s’ daily schedule is flexible enough to provide adaptability when necessary but structured enough to provide predictability for the children. We want them to view their daycare as a safe and comforting place, where they know what to expect and when to expect it. Infants and Toddlers will not necessarily follow a set schedule. They are not capable of sitting still for circle time, may need a morning nap, etc. This is one reason our daily schedule is not "set in stone". Children develop differently, and activities will be done at their own pace. We will remain flexible throughout the day and adjust as the children’s needs change. We use ABC “anti-basis-curriculum” in our program.

Typical Activities: Free play, potty breaks/diaper changes, wash up, breakfast, clean up, stories, songs, outside play, snacks, art, music, dramatic play, table toys, lunch, quiet time, science, DVD’s, group play, special days

I provide a preschool program from September through May for children ages 2 - 5 at no additional cost to you. Some of the activities include arts & crafts, music, math, science, stories, games, as well as letter, shape, color, and number recognition in a monthly theme format. Some of the projects will be taken home to share with the family and others will be ones that you can ask about. The monthly activity schedule is posted on the bulletin board by the front door. The goal of preschool is to have fun and provide a little extra learning stimulation for the older children. It will not be a rigorous academic program as young children still learn best from participating in and observing the environment around them. Over the summer months we just review what we learned during the year.

Music helps to develop young brains and will play a strong role in day-to-day activities. We may have special music activities and may also play music during other activities, for example, during arts and crafts or meal times.

Tuition/Fees and Payment Policies:
What you pay will buy quality childcare, nutritious meals, and a nurturing environment for your child. Your fees must provide my income including taxes and social security. Beyond that, your fees pay for childcare training, food, toys, equipment, art supplies, and all of the other things that your child will use. For children over two it also pays for a preschool program. Like other self-employed workers, Family child care providers do not receive benefits many employees take for granted. This includes health/dental insurance, life insurance, and retirement/pension, paid personal days, worker’s comp, paid vacations, and so on. The state dictates the size of my business and I cannot take time off for appointments or other obligations without careful planning and covering of my responsibilities. To protect my rights and income, you will find that a guaranteed wage is part of my contract. Most people work a 40-hour week, mine is more like 65-hours and up and that does not include my training, preparation, bookkeeping, and paperwork, shopping, and cleaning time. I hope this gives you a better picture of the true costs of childcare.

Please see FEES page for all current rates:

Parent Night Out: (1St and 3rd Friday of every month)
Mini evening 6:00pm-10:00pm/ one child $15.00 each sibling $12.00
Full evening 6:00pm-12:00am/ one child $25.00 each sibling $15.00
Overnight 6:00pm-12:00pm/ one child $30.00 each sibling $20.00
Anything over 10 hours per day has to pay $3.00 per hour.

Due to the limited spaces available, weekly payments are based on using or holding your slot, not on the child's attendance. No refunds are given for late arrivals/early departures, parental vacations or exclusion due to illness. The exception is the one unpaid week a year that I allow each parent. Any vacation time that I take will be unpaid.

I require two-week's notice if you need to change your enrollment hours. I also reserve the right to terminate if the new hours will not work well for my childcare business.

I offer both full-time and part-time care. Full-time positions will generally be preferred over part-time positions. I reserve the right to terminate a part-time position, if the position can be filled with a full-time family. You may opt to pay for a full-time slot in order to keep your part-time position.

I do occasionally accept children for drop-in care if I have a space available on any given day. If you tell me that you will not be bringing your child, there is a chance I will fill your spot for that day and you could potentially lose your day if I do so. Therefore I do require that you give me a minimum of 48-hours notice if you change your mind and want/need to bring your child after all on your day.

FRIDAY IS PAYDAY:
All fees shall be paid on FRIDAY morning when your child is dropped off. A receipt will be given at pick up time. If your child will not be in care on Friday you will need to drop off prior to Friday. Do not put me in a position to ask for the check~ please remember to bring it. If payments are not received on Friday a late fee of $10.00 per day will be charged. If payment including late fee is not made Monday at drop-off your child will not be allowed to attend unless other arrangements have been made with me. You will be terminated if fees go beyond two (2) weeks.

Payment options:
In your contract you will choose which payment option is best for you. Payments accepted by cash or check (I do not accept post-dated checks) made payable to Catherine Turner-Pivnicka. For your convenience, I offer the following payment options. All payments for care are due in advance for the following week

  1. Weekly= every week
  2. Bi-weekly=every other week
  3. Monthly=1st Friday of every month (payment is required for all weeks up to the 1st Friday of the next month)

Security Deposit:
Before your child is admitted into childcare, you must pay a two-week security deposit. This deposit will be credited towards your last two weeks of childcare when you decide to leave Cati’s House Childcare. I say credited because your rates may be higher when you leave Cati’s House Childcare than when you initially enroll so you may still owe an undetermined amount when you leave my services. Deposits are equal to your normal weekly fee. In the event your child does not start care by the agreed upon date, your position will be forfeited and your deposit to hold the position will become non-refundable.

Registration Fee: Each family must pay a $50.00 registration fee. This non-refundable fee is to hold your child’s spot for one (1) week until _______. This fee does not apply toward childcare. In the event your child does not start on the agreed upon date, your position will be forfeited.

Future Enrollment: If care is to begin at a future date, (1 week or more from the enrollment date) an advance payment of $____will hold a position ___weeks until _______. A position will not be held unless there is a signed contract, all required forms are filled out and returned, and fees are paid, including the $50.00 registration fee. These fees are non-refundable if enrollment is canceled, and it does not apply to the first week's payment.

Delinquent Accounts/Returned Checks:
FAILURE TO PAY:
No payment: If your childcare account remains unpaid for any reason including, but not limited to, returned checks, leaving without giving require notice or payment in lieu of notice, or simply failure to pay, be advised that your account will be reported to ProviderWatch. ProviderWatch is a credit-reporting agency that specializes in childcare accounts in all 50 states. Your delinquent account being reported to ProviderWatch will likely make it more difficult for you to find childcare providers willing to accept your children until any such accounts have been paid. You may contact ProviderWatch if any childcare provider informs you that their decision not to accept your child into care based in whole or in part on information received from this agency. ProviderWatch will disclose any delinquent account information on records so that you may resolve these accounts. ProviderWatch*www.providerwatch.com*1.866.267.3691

In the event that a Court Date has to be set for collection. The parent/Guardian will be responsible for any and all fees associated with this. This is to include but not limited to late fees, loss of wages and court costs. I will also report you to Provider Watch.

Returned check fee:
Returned check fee $40.00 + any additional fees assessed by my bank/payees, and late fees

In the event your bank returns your check, Cati’s House Childcare will charge you a $40.00 return check fee and any additional fees assessed by my bank/payees, which caused a negative balance and/or a bounced check(s) or transaction from my checking account as a direct result of your bounced check, along with a late fee.

Once these fees are paid in full, I will only accept cash payments for tuition

Late fees:
You are scheduled for childcare for the hours listed in your Contract and Rate Agreement. If you drop off before or pick up after these times, you will be charged a late/early fee. (Examples: If you put 4:30 p.m. as your pick-up time, your late fees will begin at 4:31 p.m. If you put 8:30 a.m. as your drop-off time and you drop off earlier than that you will be charged an early fee even though Cati’s House Childcare is open 24/7.) This is to assure that children are picked up on time as not to impose on my family time. Late drop off does not constitute late pick up. Payments are expected, in CASH, at the time of pick up or drop off. If cash payment is not made at this time, you will be given a bill due on or by your next regularly scheduled fee payment due date. These rules will be strictly enforced, and your habitual tardiness may result in termination of services.

The above late fees will also be charged to you if grandma or another person is suppose to arrive to pick up your child and is late.

It is your responsibility to have your child picked up on time. If you know you will be unavoidably late, it is your responsibility to have an authorized alternate person pick up your child. It is not my responsibility to tell you that I have plans after childcare hours so that you can be here on time. Bad traffic or weather (except in extreme situations) will be not be an accepted late excuse and you will be billed accordingly. Please remember that it is your responsibility to allow ample time to get here to pick up your child on time. In cases of extreme bad weather a phone call from you would be expected to let me know you are on your way. I would not want you to put yourself in danger in rushing to my home to be on time. Job-related lateness will not be excused for any reason. Continued late pick-ups will mean breach of contract and you will forfeit your child's position in the child care as well as your deposit.

Late payment:
Each family will have to pay$10.00 per day; late fees will be added daily beginning of Friday (weekend included) that payment is not received. If payment is not made Tuesday morning your child will not be allowed to attend until the outstanding balance is paid. Continued late payments will result in termination of our contract. You will be terminated if fees go beyond two (2) weeks.

Late pick-up charges: Overtime Rates:

  1. For the purpose of this agreement, over time will be considered as drop off before _____am/pm and pick-up after _____am/pm.
  2. If the parent/legal guardian makes prior arrangements with the provider, the child may stay overtime at the following flat rate of $3.00 per hour/per child. (Flat rate is the whole hour regardless of how much of the hour you use.)
  3. If the parent/legal guardian has not informed the provider that he or she will be arriving earlier or later than the agreed upon times, the following rate will be charged $5.00 per 15 minutes increments.

Rates regarding Holidays & Vacation:
Vacations are as follows; each family is granted free vacation days. Parent agrees to provide 2 weeks notice prior to any vacation time or it will not count as free days. 2 free days after 90 days of attendance 4 free days after 6 months of attendance 7 free days after one year of attendance

Holidays: Full tuition is due for any periods including holidays.
Withdrawals:
Termination Procedure:
Parent/Guardian may terminate this contract by giving 2 weeks written notice in advance of the ending date. Payment by Parent/Guardian is due with the notice period, whether or not the child is brought to the Provider for care.

If you terminate care without giving 2 weeks notice, you will be responsible for payment of the final 2 weeks of care whether or not your child attends. Please be advised that you will be charged the No Show Fee in addition to your scheduled daily rate until you notify me that your child will not be returning.

The Provider may terminate the contract without giving any notice if the Parent/Guardian does not make payments when due, failure to respect me, my home, my neighborhood, behavior of the child, which is harmful to the physical or emotional well being of the other children or failure to abide by my policies. Failure by the Provider to enforce one or more terms of this contract does not waive the right of the Provider to enforce any other terms of this contract.

TAXES: I will supply you with a year-end summary of all daycare fees paid during the year for tax purposes. This will be given to you in January each year or when services are terminated. You may request a statement at any time. My tax ID (TIN) number is available upon request.

MATERNITY/EXTENDED LEAVE:
Extended Absences: An extended absence is an absence for more than one week (5 business days). Any absence of 5 days or fewer are not considered "Extended Absences" and the week must be paid for in full. If your child will be absent for more than one week, due to maternity, extended leave from your job, your child is in the hospital or for other reasons, I will allow you to hold your child's spot for a holding fee equal to 1/2 of the weekly rate for up to, but no more than 6 weeks. In order to use this extended absence clause, you must give me at least 2 weeks notice before this reduce rate will go into effect. If there is an emergency situation in which you do not know about the need for an extended absence, the first week of the absence must be paid at the full time rate and the 1/2 time rate will go into effect on the 2nd week (so only one week notice is required in an emergency situation). To be considered part of an extended leave, the child may not attend child care for any part of any day in a week. If the extended leave goes beyond 6 weeks, full payments will need to be made for any remaining weeks in order to hold the spot. During the extended absence time, this holding fee is due each Friday for the next week. Payments may be made prior to the Friday it is due and can be mailed to me as long as they arrive by Friday. If payments are paid late, Late Payment Fees will be applied as described above. If a payment is not paid on time, I reserve the right to terminate our contract immediately and to give the spot to a child from the waiting list. .

Supervision Policy:
Arrival/Departure:
Signing your child in and out is a must. Any special messages, medications, special pickup notes, etc. Are to be given to the provider. Children may not be dropped off at the entrance of the building or be sent inside alone. Parents are responsible for the supervision of their child before and after sign-in. saying good-bye can be difficult for both you and your child. I would suggest that on your drive over you discuss with your child the fun activities and all the positives about coming. I recommend a speedy drop-off; I have found that prolonging the good-bye only makes it harder on your child Pick up can be equally as hectic as often time, several parents are picking up at the same time and this is a time of testing, when two different authority figures are present (Parent/Provider). All children will test to see if the rules still apply, I expect parents to back up the rules, please be in control of your child during drop off and pick up.

Parking, please try to park on the left side of the parking lot, since right behind the building is where the children play.

Supervision of Infants/Toddlers/Preschoolers: At no time will a child be left unattended. Provider will supervise children at all times, including naptime.

Supervision of School age children: School age children may engage in activities that pose no physical risk to their safety in a room in a room without the provider, as long as the provider can see or hear the children at all times and checks on the children periodically. School age children can use the restroom alone.

Children Arriving to the Center from other programs: At times it may be necessary for a child to arrive at the daycare from another program (school-age arrives at the center from school) If a child is scheduled to arrive and does not, we will first contact the parent to confirm that the child is scheduled to be at the daycare that day, and then contact the program that they are to have arrived from. We will then consult with the parent to determine further action. For this reason, it is very important that parents contact the daycare when their child is not going to be attending

School Delays/Cancellations: In case of school delays/cancellations I will remain open but I can only accommodate 6 children at one time, call me immediately so I can count your child in my maximum number for the day, you may have to have back-up for those times. Full time care will always be counted first, then part time care, and so on.

Release of a Child: Your child will only be allowed to leave with a person whose name is on file as a person authorized to pick-up your child. A written note for that day will be allowed. No phone calls from the parent will be allowed (this is for the safety of your child). Identification will be asked for upon arrival and code word must be given before the child is released. This is strictly for your child’s safety and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

If a parent/guardian arrives intoxicated or under the influence of drugs in the opinion of the provider, I cannot by law stop the parent from taking the child but all Reasonable steps will be taken to avoid releasing the child to that person. An emergency contact will be called to pick up the child. If the parent refuses to wait for emergency contact to pick up the child and leaves with the child, I have but no choice but to call police for the safety of the child. Your child is my first concern.

Custody Agreements: If there is a court order keeping one parent or guardian away from the child. I must have a copy from the custodial parent in my file to that affect; otherwise I cannot prevent the non-custodial parent from picking up the child.

Child Abuse Reporting: I am required by law to report any suspected signs of child abuse and/or neglect. This includes any form of physical punishment by parents in my home. Any request to use physical punishments by the parents will be noted in the child’s file along with a written refusal from Cati’s House Childcare, signed by the parent and provider.

Fieldtrips/Transportation of Children:
Through out the year we may take several field trips. We may visit the zoo, library, park, lunch at McDonalds/Burger King, etc. Parents will be notified in advance of any field trips and costs involved. You will be required to complete an authorization form for each trip. Your child (ren) does not have to attend the field trip, but you will be required to provide back-up care for your child. There is no deduction in the weekly fees if your child not attended these field trips. All children being transported while in my care will use seat belts in the appropriate type of seat for each child’s weight and age. Parents are responsible for furnishing the appropriate car seat if I do not have one. There will be times that I will double up with another daycare provider for field trips

Supplies:
LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME. You may leave here

You are required to provide a complete change of clothes (appropriate for the weather) for your child, including socks and underwear. Soiled clothing will be sent home and a clean change of clothes to be brought back the next day.

  2. Tooth brush and tooth paste for each child

Guidance Policy:
Cati’s House Childcare believes that helping the child to learn self-control is very important. Our hope is that each child will learn self-discipline through careful guidance. Your child will be treated with love and respect. If children are treated with respect, they in turn learn to respect the teachers and their friends. Our expectations will be kept within the child’s capabilities and the child will be made aware of these expectations. Positive reinforcement (commenting on children doing the “right thing”) and positive redirection (removing the child and giving them an appropriate activity) will be used. A child may be asked to sit for a short period of time to give the child a chance to regain control if they are having a difficult time. Calm down area will be used in place of Time outs. The provider will not impose punishments for failure to eat, sleep or toileting accidents. This discipline policy applies to all staff and parents while they are at the daycare.

If a situation arises where a child is consistently endangering himself, peers or provider, it may become necessary to disenroll the child. Every attempt will be made to work together with the parents and the child to correct the behavior. However, the safety of children is our primary concern. If the child demonstrates behavior that requires frequent “extra attention” from the provider, we may choose to develop and implement a behavior management plan.

REST PERIOD:
Nap/Quiet time:
All children under the age of 5 are required by state law to have a rest period (and I haven’t met one yet who doesn’t need it). No child will be forced to sleep; however they must remain quiet. Older children, and those who wake early, will participate in a quiet activity until rest time is over. Please try not to schedule pick ups or visits during this time to lessen disturbance to the resting children.

Meals and Snacks:
Children will be served meals and snacks according to there contracted hours. All meals will be nutritious and balanced according to the USDA Food program.

Please see Food Supplements or Modified Diets: under medications if your child cannot eat foods required by the USDA Food Program

Meals are at: Breakfast 8:00am, AM snack 10:00am, Lunch 12 noon, Pm snack 3:00pm, Dinner 6:30pm, Evening snack 8:00pm

Weekly menus are planned in advance and posted in the kitchen for you to review. I have a four-week rotating menu that I use (once in awhile I may change something).

Children are never forced to eat but will be encouraged to eat a few bites and to try new foods.

Milk (whole vitamin D) and Juice (100%) is served with meals and snacks, water is offered throughout the day.

If your child will not be in attendance during scheduled mealtime, it will be you’re responsibly to provide that meal, prior to bring your child to care.

Accidents/Emergencies:
I am Certified in CPR infant/child/adult & First Aid

Although supervision is constantly given, I cannot be by the child’s side al all times to prevent falls, tripping, bumps, blows from other children, etc. minor cuts and abrasions suffered while at the daycare will receive proper care, specifically, they will be washed with soap and warm water and properly bandaged. Injury and treatment will be logged. I will tell you how and when the injury occurred. I am also required to log any injuries I observe on your child which have occurred outside my care. If the child is injured in a non life-threating way, I will assess the child and provide home first aid. If the injury is more serious, the parent will be notified immediately to come get the child. If it is a life-threating emergency steps will be taken to care for your child and 9.1.1. Will be called first and then I will call you. All costs associated with injuries to the child will be the responsibility of the parent.

Fire: There is one fire extinguishers located in my home. It is located in the kitchen beside the refrigerator. If there is a fire that cannot be extinguished quickly, the children will be evacuated immediately before calling 911. We will practice fire drills monthly so the children will be prepared in the event of a fire. I have to call the fire department when I use the fire extinguisher even if it’s a small fire.

Tornado: In the event of a tornado warning, the children will be directed to the basement of the building where they will crouch and cover their heads if we have time. If there is no time the children will go to the lower level of the house beside the washer, they will crouch and cover facing the north wall.

Power outage: There are flashlights located in the kitchen, living room and laundry room. If the power remains out for so time, there are non-perishables located in the kitchen that will be used to eat. If the weather is inclement and the house is getting too cold for the children, you will be called to pick up your child.

Management of Illness:
There is always one provider present that has received training in CPR/First Aid and communicable diseases and is certified
(Back-up included)

Illness:
Under no circumstance is a sick child to attend Cati’s House Childcare. The children should be allowed to recover fully from an illness in the comfort of their own home. The other children in care are exposed to any disease your child may bring into the home. If you are unable to remain home with your child, it is your responsibility to make substitute childcare arrangements. Obviously, it is not possible to prevent the spread of all illness. However, minimizing exposure and providing good hygienic practices in the daycare home.

Children who have exhibited any symptom of infectious illness within the last 24-hour period are likely to be contagious and should remain at home. Examples of associated symptoms include, but are not limited to, fever of 100F measure orally or 101F measured rectally, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, loss of voice, hacking or continuous coughing, yellow or green runny nose, draining eyes or ears, rash, or head lice. I reserve the right to determine whether a child should remain in the home where illness is a consideration. Parents of children who become ill during the day will be promptly notified and are expected to arrange to pick up their child immediately. The sick child will, if possible, be isolated from the other daycare children to minimize exposure. If the parent cannot be reached, the person designated as the emergency contact will be notified. DO NOT MASK your child’s illness by giving them medication before coming to daycare and not telling me, this can result in an immediate termination.

Please call me, as soon as you know, if your child will be absent (due to illness or other reasons) so I will know not to expect him/her. Call 30 minutes before your arrival time. (No Show fee will be applied if I do not receive a phone call)

Please give all medications directly to me, DO NOT place in child’s bag. The only exception to this requirement is for school age children that require the immediate use of an inhaler for a medical condition.

Because the regulations regarding medicines are so strict, I ask that you only request that I give medications when truly necessary. If your child has a prescription for medication that is to be given once or twice a day, you will be able to give those doses at home.

If your child has a chronic condition such as asthma or allergies, please get a plan of action from your Doctor for me to follow.

Some requirements for medications:

  • Send medicine in its original containers (including the box it was packed in)
  • If your Doctor gives you a sample, he must also write out prescription information just as though he was writing out for the pharmacy, date, child’s name, name of the medication, route of administration, dosage, how long to give medication, date to discontinue the medication.
  • Include the proper dosing tool (medicine cup, spoon, oral syringe, etc.) even for over the counter medications
  • When filling out the medication form, use the brand name of the medicine you are bringing. If you write, “Sudafed” on the form but it is actually a store brand version of pseudoephedrine, I will NOT be able to give it to your child.
  • Please inform me of any medication you gave your child since I saw them last.

Medications:
No child will be given any medication, prescription or over the counter, unless the parent gives written permission. I will not put medications in formula, other drinks or food unless you supply me with detailed written instructions from a Doctor (some medications should be crushed and put into a small amount of applesauce for small children)

Prescription medications:
The medication must be in the original container dispensed by the pharmacy. It must contain child’s name, name of medication, Doctors name, name of pharmacy, prescription number, date and directions for administering. You will also have to fill out Permission to Administer medication form each time your child has to take medication.

Food Supplements or Modified Diets:
If your child cannot eat foods required (due to food allergies) special diet. Please secure a statement from your child’s Doctor (plan of care) within two weeks from enrollment date. I am not legally responsible for any food allergies (reactions) your child may have, as stated above, you need to bring the requested statement from your Doctor listing all food allergies. If your child needs other foods than what does the food program requires, then it will be your responsibility to supply them, example milk allergies then you would need to supply whatever your child requires (goats milk, soy milk, lactose free milk).

Outdoor Play:
Research has shown that children stay healthier when they have daily outdoor play. Based on this information and state requirements, outdoor play will be included in our program on a daily basis. We will limit the amount of time outside when the temperatures are very warm or very cold. Children will not be taken outside when the temperature (wind chill and heat index factored in) drop below 20 degrees or rise above 90 degrees. If the situation requires it we will also adjust outdoor time due to rain, threating weather, ozone warnings, etc. On days that outdoor time is not provided due to these conditions, we will include a time for indoor gross motor activities. Please send your children with the proper clothing so they may be comfortable and safe whenever we are outside. Winter please have snow pants, mittens, boots and a warm coat. Summer please provide swimsuit, towel and sunscreen

Water play: I have a sprinkler for summer water play. I require a permission slip signed before the child is allowed to play in the water if I use a small wading pool. (Which is cleaned and disinfected after every use) A swimsuit will be requested for those days.

Parent Participation:
Please take an interest in our program and talk with your child about the day’s activities. I consider it a privilege to have been entrusted with the care of your child and I will always treat your child with love and respect. If at any time you have suggestions, comments or questions, please feel free to bring then to my attention.

OPEN DOOR POLICY:
Please feel free to come and join us anytime your child is in care, just please respect nap/quiet time. Between 1-3 pm everyday

Evening and Overnight Care:
Our evening childcare program has some additional policies. These apply only to the children who attend after 7pm. For security reasons, access to the daycare is limited to only parents/guardians and Authorized staff.

Evening Schedule: Free play, potty breaks/diaper changes, wash up, Dinner, clean up, stories, songs, outside play, snacks, art, music, dramatic play, table toys, quiet time, science, DVD’s, group play, special day

Additional Policies:
House rules for children:

  1. No biting, hitting, pushing, shoving, or any undesirable physical contact. Please respect the space of others
  2. Name-calling intentionally to hurt another’s feelings is not allowed. Please treat others as you like them to treat you
  3. No running or roughhousing in my home. This can be done outside. Bedrooms in my home are off limits to daycare children. Respect for my home is mandatory.
  4. No picking up other children, especially infants and toddlers.
  5. All food and drink will remain in the dinning room/kitchen area

Parents

  1. No food or drink is to be brought from home at arrival or departure time. Please allow adequate time for your child to finish eating before arriving at daycare.
  2. Property brought to childcare is not my responsibility. I cannot be responsible for lost or broken items. I do not prohibit children from brining toys, movies, games, etc. from home, but they must be safe (and appropriate) for all ages. If the children are unable to share, the item(s) will be put away for the day. Any property that remains at Cati’s House Childcare ten (10) business days after last day of child’s attendance becomes the property of Cati’s House Childcare becomes the property of Cati’s House Childcare to be disposed of as I see fit.
  3. Proper use of daycare toys and equipment is required at all times for safety reasons and maintenance. If a child deliberately breaks a toy, the parent will be responsible for replacing the item.
  4. Nap/quiet time is required everyday for children 5 and under in my care.
  5. Please treat my home and family with respect.
  6. Please treat other families and children who attend my daycare with respect.
  7. SMOKING IS NEVER ALLOWED IN MY HOME. Please do not throw your butts in my parking lot/yard or exhale before entering my home.
  8. You are welcome to visit your child at any time
  9. Parents may call at any time, however, if I’m unavailable, I will return your call within two (2) hours.

Toilet training:
When your child shows readiness for toilet learning, this will be done in a relaxed manner and in cooperation with you. I will only begin helping to potty train a child if you have successfully began training at home for a week prior. If your child has frequent accidents or is just learning to use the toilet, you will need to provide plenty of extra clothing and underwear. A lot of parents like pull-ups, I don’t I feel they are just like a diaper and training takes longer. I would like you to buy training underwear that can be left here at least 6-10 pairs and I will launder these for you. Your child may wear pull-up to and from daycare.

This is just my preference and you do not have to do this. You may train your child in pull-ups but it also may take longer. (I have successfully trained children in under 2 months time wearing training pants)

Television:
I allow limited TV viewing consisting of PBS only. On occasion I let the children pick a child appropriate video to watch. I NEVER require children to sit and watch TV, as a babysitter. I do use Baby Einstein DVD’s and sometimes VHS tapes in my sign language learning activities.

Pets:
Cati’s House Childcare has 3 cats. They have been certified as healthy by a veterinarian and are current on all immunizations. The children will be exposed to the daily aspects of pet care, (feeding, watering and grooming). They will not be exposed to cleaning out litter box. I will not lock up my cats they are free to roam as your children are. On most days the cats will probably hide.

Dress code:
Please dress your child appropriately. Please remember that when children play, eat, do arts and crafts, that there is a chance that they may get something on their clothes. For this reason I ask that you send your child in play clothes that won’t matter if it gets soiled. I will do my best to keep your child clean. Do not send your child in clothing that you do not want stained. Weather permitting; we will spend a lot of time outdoors. You also need to supply a complete change of clothing in case of an accident; I do not supply clothing for daycare children. If the child has no spare clothing, the parent will be called to bring some.

RELIGIOUS PRACTICES:
I feel that religious teachings should be left up to the parents. That does not mean that God never is mentioned.

If you have any restrictions or concerns, please feel free to address them to me.

Communication with parents;
Keeping close communication with parents is a priority! Since we may not always have the time to talk about how and what your child is doing. I have established the following ways to help us. I maintain an open door policy and parents are always welcome to drop-in during the times that children are in care. Please try not to do this during quit/nap time

Daily reports:
Each child age 4 and under will have a daily written report

Back and Forth Folder:
You child will have a file folder in which they are to carry back and forth each day. Please check folder each day, two reasons. This folder is property of Cati’s House Childcare

  1. It enables me to provide you with letters, memos, notes and important paperwork.
  2. To show your child that you are interested in what they are doing.

Entryway posting:
I will post information regarding upcoming events, reminders and other news pertaining to the daycare and your children.

Monthly newsletter:
I will have a monthly newsletter to give you and idea of up coming events and menu for the current month.

Email:
I will send regular emails to all parents regarding upcoming activities, daily activities, questions about a child or just share a cute little Ditty, or photos taken that day.

Parent Conference:
Occasionally parents will be invited to meet and discuss their child’s development and concerns. Either the parent or myself may initiate this.

Telephone messages:
During the day, I am very busy providing care for your child and other daycare children. I will not interrupt our activities to answer the phone, unless it is an emergency. Don’t be alarmed if you get the answering machine. I expect you to leave a message and I will return your call when I become available, if it is an emergency please remain calm when leaving your message as the children can hear you. For emergency calls, if you reach my answering machine leave a message and then call my cell phone. We may be outside or away and I may not receive your message promptly. If you need to call me you may do so at any time between 7am-9pm

Holidays/birthdays:
We honor all major holidays and all children’s birthdays. If you would like to bring a special treat (no homemade treats please) for the children, please arrange this with the provider. You are more than welcome to participate in any activities we have planned.

House Cleaning:
My house is not always spotless. My main concern is the care of the children. I clean my house during rest time, if all are asleep, during non-business hours and occasionally with children’s help. The children will help clean up toys before meals and naps

CLEANLINESS & HYGIENE:
I do my best to maintain strict cleanliness and hygiene standards. Children's hands are washed before and after meals and after toileting. I use paper towels for drying hands, so children do not have to use the same towel. If parents provide a toothbrush and toothpaste, teeth will be brushed, as well. I wash my hands frequently and also use antibacterial gel. Infants sleep in separate cribs or pack and plays, with clean sheets used only by them. Beginning at about age 2, toddler and twin size beds are used. Each child has there own place to sleep, with sheets, blankets and pillows that are washed weekly (unless soiled, then they are washed as often as necessary). If another child uses there sleeping area all bedding is washed and Steri-fab is used.

Children use separate cups, plates, bowls and eating utensils that have been washed with a bleach water solution. High chair trays, tables, etc. are disinfected with a bleach water solution after each use. Toys are washed weekly unless put into the mouth then they are washed daily with a bleach solution.

Smoking, Drinking and Drugs:
My home is a smoke-free environment. No one is permitted to smoke in my home, either during or after childcare hours. State law does not allow smoking in my home during child care hours. I am not a smoker, nor do I drink alcohol of any kind at any time, I do not use any illegal street drugs.

The information you supply to me will be kept confidential. I will, at all times, respect your privacy. Before any of the information is released to outside persons, the parent will sign a form. All forms are kept in a file box out of public view.
